Archbishop Maximous salloum was born in yaroun village , the archbishopric of tyre , bint jbeil in southern lebanon in the year 1923.
IN september 1933 he was sent by the archbishopric of tyre to EL-Slahiyeh st.Anne in jerusalem to become a priest.The archpishop of tyre was then Maximous Sayegh who was elected as the patriarch ,taking the name of Maximous IV Sayegh.
In the year 1946 , he was ordained a priest at the EL-Slahiyeh serving the archpishopric of Acre,Haifa,Nazareth and all the Galilee.At that time archpishop George Hakim was then the Metropolitan Archpishopric who became a Patriarch in the year 1967 taking the name of Maximous V Hakim.
In september 1946 , Maximous Salloum was appointed the parish Priest in Fassuta and the principal of the Episcopal school in the village.
In the year 1958 he moved to Haifa as a Secretary to the archbishop and was appointed as the general administrator to the archbishpric.In the year 1964 he was asked to give theology lessons at the arab teaching college in Haifa and in the year 1968 he remaind as secretary to Archbishop Yousef RAYA and following the resignation of Archbishop Raya ,
he was appointed as an administrator to the Archbishopric of Acre and all Galilee in the year 1974 on 20th August 1975 the sacred Synod elected him Archbishop on the Archbishopric of Acre,Haifa,Nazareth and all the Galilee and on the 14th september 1975 he was consecrated as an Arch bishop to the Archbishopric which took place at the Church of the Paulist fathers in Harissa,Lebanon.
HE served the Archbishopric of Acre as an Archbishop from the year 1975 to 1997 when he had to submit his resignation after reaching the retirement age according to the law of service.the pictures illustrated in the pages of the book are only part of the work and achievements of his Grace Archbishop Maximous Salloum. |
